Participation Cymru training
The following Participation Cymru courses are taking place over the next couple of months. The courses are part of our training programme for public service providers in the Third, Public and Private sectors for the autumn and winter of 2010-11. Our training courses are suitable for people who want to design, develop and deliver citizen engagement and public participation.

National principles for public engagement in Wales consultation
Participation Cymru and TPAS Cymru’s consultation on the draft National Principles for Public Engagement will soon be closing on 30 November. This information sheet contains more information on the process and the principles in full, and you can access the online consultation here. There are only a few places remaining at these participation network events, which are free of charge and open to all practitioners. We will look at how Participation Cymru can best support you and we will also run a session on assertiveness and consensus building. There is time available for you to test out your own participatory sessions with a sympathetic audience. If you would like to take up this opportunity please let us know. Please feel free to bring lunch with you as food will not be provided, but there will be tea and coffee available.

Method of the Month

Buzzword bingo
Description of method: Create a grid of jargon, acronyms, technical words and management speak that can be used like a bingo card in order to challenge inaccessible language.
Materials used: Bingo cards, pens
What is good about this method? Can be bespoke for each meeting. It shows jargon as it comes up and is explained to all as and when it comes up. Can give confidence to those who would be uneasy when questioning at meetings. It challenges authority and ideas.
What are the limitations? Must be tailored to a specific level or audience
Variations: Jargon Flag, which is raised when inaccessible language is used.

2011 Climate Change Champions
If you’re aged 14-18, why not become a Climate Change Champion and make a difference? You will show people in your community and across Wales how everyone can reduce their carbon footprint, by speaking to a range of audiences through internet blogs, your own newspaper columns and doing TV and radio interviews. You will also speak at events in your local area and across Wales. The competition will close on Friday 19 November.

A fair start: A personalised pathway for disabled children and their families
This paper is the first in a joint policy document series produced by the Centre for Welfare Reform and the Health Services Management Centre. The paper proposes that local and national leaders work with families and communities to create a Personalised Pathway for the care, support and education of disabled children and their families.

Building on what works
Wiltshire Council’s adult social care staff are taking an innovative approach to driving change, based on ‘building on what works’. A positive culture has been created by running workshops for key staff on Appreciative Inquiry, a concept that is conversely different from the conventional ‘problem solving model’ traditionally favoured by the public sector.

Cutting it
The ‘Big Society’ is a defining policy of the Coalition Government in Westminster and it is David Cameron’s big idea. It is also a government-led programme for structural change. In this report, the New Economics Foundation analyses the opportunities and threats of the 'Big Society' vision, and how it will effect businesses, the third sector and democracy.

Draft guidance for engagement and consultation on changes to health services
The purpose of the current consultation is to seek views on new draft guidance on promoting continual high quality engagement by the NHS with local citizens. It will assist the NHS in managing effective public engagement and in handling consultations on service changes.

Help improve services and opportunities in Powys
PAVO is trying to find out more about the services and interventions that are provided by third sector organisations that support independent living and promote the wellbeing of people in Powys. A questionnaire is available for workers or service users here, which should take no more that 15 minutes.

Human rights in action – a toolkit for change
The British Institute of Human Rights has launched a new online human rights toolkit. The toolkit is an introductory resource on human rights, providing basic and practical information about what human rights are and how they can be applied to UK issues.

Learning about human rights in the primary school
Education Minister Leighton Andrews and Keith Towler, Children's Commissioner for Wales, launched this free, bilingual pack from Amnesty International. It is designed to help teachers explore human rights in primary schools with 5-11 year olds. It focuses on fairness and freedom and the rights of young children.

Model for delivering advocacy services for children and young people in Wales
The Welsh Assembly Government have released this update to keep you informed of developments in implementing and moving forward on the model, an element of which is involving children and young people.

National Assembly for Wales Children and Young People Committee newsletter
The Children and Young People Committee has launched its autumn newsletter, which will be issued termly. It includes information on how to get involved in the Committee, what the Committee are up to this term and how young people can get their voices heard.

National Assembly for Wales website review
The National Assembly for Wales is performing a review of its external website www.assemblywales.org with a view to making some key changes to improve the online experience. They are conducting an online survey which can be accessed here and will be available until 3rd December.

NICE asks the public for views on incentives to improve health
NICE is keen to hear what the public thinks about the use of incentives to improve health. Anyone with a view is invited to comment, before the final report is presented to the NICE Board for consideration. Members of the public have until 5:00pm on 26 November to comment on the Citizens Council report.

Providing personalised support to rough sleepers
This study evaluated the impact of a new pilot project offering personalised budgets to rough sleepers in the City of London, and explored the reasons for the project's success, which include the elements of choice and control that are not provided by standard support.

Shaping public spending priorities for adult social care
Ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation commissioned Ipsos MORI to look into the views and perceptions of local authorities and service user/carer organisations as they prepare for the challenges they now face, which include service user involvement.

The future of the Citizenship Survey
This statistical consultation sets out the intention to cancel the future Citizenship Survey, and in doing so, seeks to identify the uses of the Survey data, the implications of stopping and options for alternative information sources. WCVA are interested in comments from third sector organisations in Wales, if you are planning a response to this consultation please e-mail your comments to fliddell@wcva.org.uk.

Travelling ahead
This website has been set up to support young Gypsies and Travellers in Wales to have a voice and a say on decisions that affect them. The website has a space for young people to discuss important issues, learn more about their rights and upload media content. It also has a toolkit for professionals, which contains resources to support them in their work with young Gypsies and Travellers.

What to do when faced with a planning application in Wales
This updated guidance provides information on how to find out about planning applications, and how to make effective and relevant consultation responses to the local planning authority. The booklet is designed for people who want to support or object to a planning application in their area.

Youth engagement and local democracy
The Local Government Group and the National Youth Agency have published a report looking at the contributions young people can make in their communities. Containing many examples of successful youth engagement initiatives, the report explores the value of young voices to the work of councils in strengthening local democracy and improving local areas.

Mae’r cwrs yma yn egluro sut mae adrannau gwasanaethau cymdeithasol yn asesu anghenion iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol person o dan ddeddfwriaeth gofal yn y gymuned yn cael ei esbonio o bersbectif ymarferol; ni fydd angen unrhyw wybodaeth flaenorol. Bydd y cwrs hefyd yn ystyried darpariaeth Taliadau Uniongyrchol a hefyd pa atebion all fod ar gael pan fo rhywun yn anhapus gyda chanlyniad asesiad.

Diben y cwrs hwn yn helpu pobl i ddeall y broses Asesu Craidd i nodi gofynion gofal plant anabl.
