Powys Third Sector Assembly and Powys Patients' Council vacancies

13 Jan 2010

Powys now has a Third Sector Assembly to strengthen the collective voice of voluntary and community groups across the county. The assembly sat for the first time in November 2009, and includes 54 assembly member places from all over Powys from 18 specific areas of interest including Older People, Mental Health and Health, Social Care and Well-being.

The first meeting was a very participative event, with the members themselves deciding how it would move forward and work together.

Two workshops followed and members explored the implications of the proposed merger between Powys Teaching Local Health Board and Powys County Council. The groups also decided how they would like the new Third Sector Assembly to be involved in this process.

There are still two places left on the assembly for mental health representatives. If you would like to get involved please call PAVO on 0845 009 32 88.

Powys Patients’ Council is also looking for people who could spare an afternoon per month to volunteer as a ward visitor at either Shelton or Bronllys. It holds regular, patient-only meetings wherever Powys residents are offered mental health services. The meetings are confidential and give people an opportunity to express views on the services they receive. Free training opportunities are available for volunteers and expenses are reimbursed.
