Residents use participatory budgeting to decide new play schemes

19 Nov 2009

Residents have chosen two new play facilities to replace a paddling pool which was filled in. Denbighshire Council closed the paddling pool at Cae Ddol, Ruthin, earlier this year after concerns over costs and health and safety issues.

After protests from local people the council pledged £25,000 towards a new facility.
From 10 proposals, residents chose a children's adventure ship and a zip wire.

The new play facilities, funded through a participatory budget scheme designed to let locals have a direct say on how money is spent, will be in place by Spring 2010. The council said the other eight proposals - which included a model boating lake and a picnic bench area - would be considered in future years. Further information is available here.
